Residents from Other Region Attracted to Bekasi`s Free Healthcare

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi city`s healthcare card that is based on people’s identity card number known as a KS-NIK drew large attention to the people living from areas outside of the region. It managed to lure many people from other regions to be a Bekasi resident in hopes of being able to receive the free healthcare.
According to Bekasi City’s administration spokeswoman Sayekti Rubiah, several people that are registered as residents of Bekasi Regency, Jakarta, and Bogor, were known to move to Bekasi City for the free healthcare.
“Middlemen had led them. They intended to acquire the free healthcare by changing residency,” said Sayekti in Bekasi on Monday, October 1.

Several cases revealed that people residing as far as Tegal, Central Java had also changed residency with the help of a middleman just to acquire healthcare.
“This is surely a violation, we urge people to not be tempted by the practices of being a middleman,” Sayekti said.
The Bekasi City government had printed more than 600,000 KS-NIK free healthcare cards for the region. However, he maintained that the healthcare cards could only be used for emergency situations.
