TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Whatsapp warns its users upon Google’s free backup service and explained that using that service means messages will no longer be protected by end-to-end encryption.
ZDNet reported that Whatsapp and Google had reached a deal that saw Whatsapp backups will not be included in the limited Google Drive storage quotas.
"Media and messages you back up aren't protected by WhatsApp end-to-end encryption while in Google Drive," WhatsApp says.
More users may now take advantage of backup options, which is especially useful if you lose your mobile phone or switch handsets especially as the storage cap has been lifted.
However, users should implement a strong Google account password and two-factor authentication (2FA) instead of expecting the same level of encrypted protection that the WhatsApp platform offers.
