TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Depok Police Chief Grand Commissioner Didik Sugiarto said that Indonesia had potentially lost up to Rp10.7 billion from a suspected case of corruption on the Nangka Street construction project in Depok by Depok Mayor Nur Mahmudi Ismail.

The former mayor has been named as a suspect by Depok police.

The estimation was based on the calculation of the auditor team from West Java’s Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP).

“The losses are quite significant up to the billions. The court proceeding will reveal that number transparently up to Rp10 billion,” said Didik at the Depok Police Headquarters on Wednesday, August 29.

According to Didik, the land acquisition for the road’s dilation project should have been covered by Apartment Green Lake View developers as it was mentioned in the permit issued by Nur Mahmudi Ismail who acted as Depok’s Mayor at the time.

“But facts encountered in the investigation found that there was a budget from the regional budget (APBD) allocated for the land acquiring in 2015,” said Didik.

The police investigation had temporarily deemed that Depok Legislative Council’s budgeting mechanism is in accordance to existing procedure. However, the investigation will continue to confirm the actual flow of funds.
