TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government conducted the final traffic simulation today, August 1, in a bid to measure the travel time of Asian Games athletes from dorm to the sporting venues. The Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate, Jakarta Transportation Agency, and the Transport Ministry`s Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) joined in the simulation.
“Today, [the trial starts] from athlete dorm to sporting venues in Gelora Bung Karno and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah,” said Jakarta Police's Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Yusuf at Asian Games Athletes Apartment, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, August 1.
During the trial, the police blocked several toll gates and main roads to let the athletes’ bus passing without a hitch.
Tempo boarded in one of the buses heading to the martial art Pencak Silat and Wrestling venue in TMII. The route started from Athlete dorm Kemayoran, entered the Ancol Timur toll gate, and exit in the Ramp. TMII 1 toll gate.

The bus departed at 9:03 am and arrived precisely before the venue at 09:33 am, 30 minutes of travel time to be exact. And the arrival time was 25 minutes and 48 seconds when the bus entered the TMII entrance gate.
However, the Traffic Directorate noted a different calculation which was 27 minutes and that was 2 minutes slower than the second trial held on July 20.
BPTJ head Bambang Prihartono said, despite the issue, the travel time has met the requirement set by 2018 Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc). The related stakeholders would later hold a rehearsal of the traffic engineering ahead of the pan-Asia multi-sports event.
“We have finalized the regulation regarding the establishment of Asian Games based on today’s trial,” Bambang added.
The 18th Asian Games will take place in Jakarta and Palembang starting on August 18 to September 2. Some 15,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries are expected to arrive in Indonesia during the international sports event.
