TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) has found that several Asian Games venues are still lacking proper public facilities. In the remaining 27 days prior to the opening ceremony, ORI hopes the shortfalls could dealt with immediately.

“This is not a small matter since public service fulfillment are contained in Law No. 25/2009 on public services,” Ombudsman commissioner Adrianus Meliala told a press conference today.

During the last 60 days before the Asian Games opening ceremony, Ombudsman examined 24 venues, including Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Complex and the Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, which they deemed fully-prepared.

Ombudsman focused its examination on multiple factors, such as the availability of public services, facilities, and infrastructure. It also concluded that several venues had yet to meet the basic standards, from the availability of an emergency exits and locations of religious service to the venue’s ability to accommodate the disabled.

“From the 24 locations we looked into, 14 locations did not provide seats for spectators with special needs , and only 6 locations plan to provide the accommodation and only 4 have provided such accommodation,” said Adrianus.

Adrianus revealed that the Ombudsman announced their findings 40 days before the 2018 Asian Games kicked off on August 18, which would give ample time for INASGOC to spur preparations.
