TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PLN president director Sofyan Basir will be questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the alleged bribery in the Riau 1 steam power plant (PLTU) project. The KPK will question Sofyan as a witness.

"He will be cross-examined as a witness for suspect Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo." KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said in a written statement, Friday, July 20.

Sofyan arrived at the KPK building at 10:00 this morning.

According to Febri, the KPK will dig into PLN's role in the partnership scheme for the project.

The case also implicates the House of Representatives' (DPR) Energy Commission deputy chairperson Eni Saragih, whom the KPK had also named as a suspect.

KPK investigators had also searched Sofyan's house last week for investigative purposes, taking some notes and documents about the projects, as well as security cameras' footages from the PLN chief's home and office.

The KPK suspects Eni of having received Rp4.8 billion worth of bribe from Kotjo, the CEO of Apac Group, to help seal the deal for the power plant project.

The KPK suspects that Eni was not the only party to have received bribes.

On Friday, July 13, the KPK arrested 13 people in different areas in Jakarta during a sting operation. Among them were Eni Saragih and Johannes Kotjo.

During the operation, the KPK confiscated Rp500 million in cash and an invoice for it, allegedly from Johannes to Eni. Eni and Johannes are under suspicion of committing bribery in the PLTU Riau 1 project. The KPK named them suspects on Saturday.
