TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Although most people are excited about the World Cup event, a harrowing threat came from the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

Footballer Lionel Messi is one of the targets of the threat by IS. The group threatened to kill the 30-years player through a viral propaganda video.

Quoted from Metro on June 17, 2018, IS showed a video of a militant shooting at football jerseys planted on a wall. Other than a jersey with Messi’s name, there were also jersey's of other players competing in the 2018 World Cup.

However, all of the jerseys' planted on the wall belongs to FC Barcelona players, namely Luis Suarez, Paulinho, Ivan Rakitic, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Thomas Vermaelen, Yerri Mina, Philippe Continho, Samuel Umtiti, Ousmane Dembele, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, and Andres Iniesta.

This is not the first time that IS has threatened to kill Messi. Previously, IS published a magazine with a cover containing a picture of IS militant beheading Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lately, IS is known to have spread threats in relation to the 2018 World Cup event. Just days before the event begins, IS released a propaganda video showing a massacre in Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi, Russia, where the event is held.
