TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will receive a bilateral visit from the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Wednesday, May 30. Based on the daily agenda of Jokowi, the two will meet at 10:00 am.

Both will initially conduct a series of activities at the Merdeka Palace, such as taking pictures together, filling the guest books, tete-a-tete (private conversations), bilateral meetings, cooperation document announcements, and press conferences.

After performing the series of events, both will move to the National Monument to attend the kite festival of Indonesia-India. The event will take place at 12:45 pm.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi earlier said during this visit, Indonesia and India will sign a number of cooperation agreements. India's position for Indonesia is seen as one of Asia's most important partners.

"Both in terms of economic and geopolitical and geostrategic terms, India is one of the important things for us," said Retno at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, May 28.

According to Retno, the trade value of both countries increased over time. Last year, she said, it was US$18.7 billion.

In addition, the number of tourists from India in Indonesia also increased. In the period of 2016-2017, the increase of Indian tourists reached 28.8 percent. One of the cooperation agreements that will be signed by both countries is the renewal in the field of defense.
