Jokowi Ready to Welcome Prime Minister of India

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of Indonesia Joko Widodo will welcome the visit by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday, May 29. It is the first official visit to Indonesia in return for the state visit of President Jokowi to India in December 2016.


Modi's visit to Indonesia will be held in order to welcome the 70 years of Indonesia-India diplomatic relations that will fall in 2019. Modi will be in Jakarta until 31 May.


The Foreign Ministry on Sunday, May 27, explained that the two leaders will discuss bilateral, regional and global issues. The bilateral agenda will include areas of cooperation aimed at the mutual benefit in the fields of politics, defense, and security, maritime, economics, as well as strengthening people-to-people contacts and culture.


Meanwhile, the agenda of regional and global talks will cover the conditions and challenges faced together in the region and globally today, and how the two countries can work together and make a real contribution to the creation of a peaceful, safe, and prosperous region and world.


In the series of visits, there will be the second meeting of Indonesia-India CEO Forum. The forum will be attended by the CEOs of Indonesia and India who will produce a joint recommendation for later submitted to President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Modi.


In this visit, Indonesia and India strategic partnership will also be encouraged through the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding.
