The Monas event that claimed the lives of two children.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police did not investigate an allegation of hush money given to two families of children who died in Monas, Central Jakarta. The police currently only focus on the allegations of negligence conducted by the event committee.

"We did not bring up the issue because we only investigate the reports made by Gambir Police," said Jakarta Police’s Head of Sub-Directorate of Violence Adj. Sr. Comr. Jerry Raimond Siagian when contacted in Jakarta, Saturday, May 19.

A social organization Forum Untukmu Indonesia distributed the staple food on Saturday, April 28 in Monas. The event was turned out into chaos and allegedly caused two children died, namely Muhammad Rizki Syahputra, 10, and Mahesa Junaedi, 12.

On May 2, Komariah, Rizki's mother, reported the organizing committee to the Police. Both families were said to have received Rp5 million and Rp10 million respectively from the event organizer. "But they demanded us not convey the chronology of the incident, 'Please, do not tell it to anyone'," said Muhammad Fayyadh, Komariah’s lawyer.

Committee Chairman Dave Revano Santosa confirmed that the two were his members. He claimed the money as a condolence form, not a bribe to keep the families mouth closed. However, on May 6, Komariah drop the police report.

Jerry added that the police only focused on the negligence that caused two children died based on a report on Article 359 of the Criminal Code. The police investigated the link between the permit from Jakarta Provincial Government and the event implementation.
