TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has assured the capital’s food stock is safe ahead of the Ramadan month. “It is safe and God willing there won’t be any turbulence,” he said at Kramat Jati Central Market in East Jakarta, May 4, 2018.

Sandiaga carried out an impromptu visit to the market to inspect strategic food stock ahead of the Ramadan month. Accompanying Sandiaga were representatives from the Trade Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, Coordinating Economic Ministry, State Logistics Agency, and Bank Indonesia.

Sandiaga said the capital’s food commodities would be secure during the Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr. During the visit, he also inspected the preparations for the distribution and supplies of food. “There is no need for Jakartans to worry because all [the foods] will be affordable and safe,” he said.

Sandiaga said rice supplies at the Cipinang Central Market presently reached 44,000 tons, while the stock for onions and chili hit 120 tons daily. “We also hope that beef prices will be in the safe position,” he said.

Sandiaga Uno has formed a special team to keep an eye on food prices and stock ahead of the Ramadan in real-time fashion. “All communication devices will be active 24 hours for coordination and direct response should there be any trouble,” he said.
