TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) presumes that the magnitude 3.3 earthquake that struck the area in the vicinity of Mount Salak in Bogor on Wednesday, May 2, was caused by movements in the Citarik fault.

BMKG’s head of tsunami early warning and earthquake information Daryono said that the earthquake took place around 06:11 PM Indonesian Western Time (WIB).

The agency’s analysis showed that the quake’s epicenter was located at the 6.80 south latitude and 106.68 East Longitude. “It specifically struck land 27 kilometers Southwest of Bogor City at the depth of 14 kilometers,” said Daryono.

BMKG has yet received any reports on casualties or damages caused by the II MMI quake.

“We need to conduct further studies to ensure the quake’s epicenter,” said Daryono. BMKG has yet detected any aftershocks that followed up the main earthquake and urged Bogor residents to stay calm.
