TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Owner of the custom apparel shop Nevertoolavish, Bernhard Suryaningrat said that he will not mass produce the custom denim jacket worn and made viral by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“It is highly likely that the denim jacket will not be reproduced,” said Bernhard on Wednesday, March 12.
The denim jacket he referred to was the one that had an Indonesian map across the chest with its islands colored white on top of a red colored background. Meanwhile, the back of the jacket had ‘Indonesia’ written with various patterns such as batik and a Balinese dancer.

The reason why the custom denim jacket will not be mass-produced, according to Bernhard, was to maintain the uniqueness of the jacket that is now owned by the most powerful person in Indonesia. Another reason is that the custom shop was unable to handle the number of order requests after their design suddenly arguably became the country’s hottest item to own.
However, Bernhard said that he plans to produce a similar type of jacket but with different designs. “It would surely have a different design,” he said.
President Jokowi wore the jacket in his motorcycle tour to Bantargadung that ended at the Pelabuhan Ratu Beach. Dozens of motorcycle clubs took part in the convoy, among others were members of motorcycle custom garage Elders Company.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basoeki Hadimoeljono and Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko were also within the group where each rode their own motorcycles behind Jokowi.
