TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) Abdul Kharis Almasyhar confirmed that it would not be a problem if Facebook Indonesia decided to shut down as a result of violating regulations in Indonesia.

"It does not matter if it needs to be closed, even if it is disbanded, it's not a problem," Abdul said in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Commission I of the DPR has called Southeast Asia's Facebook leadership to provide explanation related to the leaked user data.

Abdul further questioned Facebook that while operating in Indonesia, Facebook never made contribution or paid taxes. Abdul said that Facebook has been getting millions of dollars from doing business in Indonesia.

"But they never paid taxes. It doesn't matter if [Facebook] closes, there will be new [companies]," Abdul stated.

Furthermore, Abdul expected Facebook's Southeast Asia's executives to attend the summon of the DPR's Commission I on April 17, 2018.

Originally, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday afternoon, April 11, 2018, but Facebook canceled the meeting because the company's executive must attend a meeting with the United States Congress.

Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara previously said that the government could close the Facebook operation in Indonesia.
