Lightning Strike Causes Fire in Taman Kota Housing Area

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The fire that occurred at Taman Kota housing area, Kembangan, West Jakarta burnt 122 houses on Thursday, March 29. The house that suspected as the cause of the great fire has been installed with police lines.
According to local residents, a fire was caused by the lightning that struck a power pole. The distance between a cause of the fire is only about a meter from the house. A resident who did not want to be named said the fire started on the second floor of the house.
General Manager of PT PLN Jakarta Raya Distribution, Muhammad Ikhsan Asaad ensured that the fire was not caused by lightning strikes on a power pole. The reason, every PLN electricity pole contains only low voltage electricity.
If the power pole struck by lightning, PLN substation has a system to prevent the flow of electricity from the pole, said Ikhsan.
Police deployed the Central Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor) team to investigate the cause of the fire on Friday, March 30.
West Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi said based on the information of the twenty witnesses who saw the fire, it came from a resident’s house.
Hengki said the cause of the fire is still under the investigation. According to him, if it is still necessary, then Puslabfor team will observe again.
