TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers stage a protest in front of the Merdeka Palace Tuesday, March 27. They demanded the government to regulate the tariffs of online transport.
"We demand a tariff equation for us to have a legal umbrella," a protester named Edi said.
The number of protesters reached hundreds, with them parking their vehicles in front of the Tourism Ministry's office building before marching towards the State Palace.
"We want to have clear rules," said Andre, another protester. "This is in order to avoid friction (among drivers) because my wife must also be fed."
According to Andre, the difference in tariffs between online ojek companies is detrimental to the drivers.
"We are partners, not sales (people)," he said. The protesters plan to stage their demonstration in front of the palace until 16:00, Jakarta time.
