Ridwan Kamil Promises to Overcome Cicaheum Flash Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Candidate Ridwan Kamil committed to better regulate natural disaster management and environmental improvement in West Java, especially in North Bandung Area (KBU) if elected to be the governor period 2018-2023. He claimed to master about the constellation of Bandung basin.


Ridwan Kamil admitted criticism delivered by the citizen against the mayor regarding flash floods from Cipamokolan River, Cicaheum, Bandung, Monday, March 19 was quite harsh.


One criticism came from the Director of Indonesian Forum for Environment (Walhi) West Java, Dadan Ramdan. He said the destruction of forests in KBU area was due to the government allowing the construction of buildings or commercial facilities in the area.


The following are promises conveyed by Ridwan Kamil as carried out by National Democrat (NasDem) Party, United Development Party (PPP), National Awakening Party (PKB), and People Conscience Party (Hanura) to overcome the flash flood in Cicaheum:


1. Reviving the role and function of governor assistant as provincial representatives in the Bandung basin.


2. Building coordination between each government at the district level in Bandung.


3. Running a program of many artificial lakes on a small scale. The lake serves as a water reservoir from upstream so that when the rainwater from North Bandung does not inundate the city but accommodated in the artificial lakes. Ridwan Kamil refused to build large lakes because of potential social problems which lead to moving people’s residence.


4. Limiting the development project in North Bandung area.


5. Replanting barren hills (forestation).


During his service as the mayor of Bandung, Ridwan Kamil admitted declining many permits for apartment projects in his area.
