TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi represented the country in condemning the undemocratic decision of US President Donald Trump who acknowledged Israel’s decision to name Jerusalem as its new capital city.

“As a democratic nation, the United States of America should be the country that knows the true meaning of democracy,” said Minister Retno Marsudi who wore a Palestinian scarf as a form of protest against Trump’s decision.

“This scarf does not only showcase Indonesian Government’s commitment, but it also represents the commitment of our people to always stand by Palestine,” she added.

Trump recently stated his support towards Israel’s decision, which he claims is one of the solutions to resolve the Palestine-Israel conflict.

His decision to show support for Israel was met with opposition from many countries and suggested that Trump does not understand the main problem of the Palestine-Israel conflict and that his decision to acknowledge it would only make matters worse.

Minister Retno Marsudi said that the Indonesian Government is committed to urging for a peaceful solution for the Palestine-Israel conflict that is based on International regulations.
