TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives` Ethics Council (MKD) is demanded to take action against the House Speaker Setya Novanto (SN) for his unethical conduct.

The Center for Indonesian Legal and Policies Studies (PSHK) urged MKD to conduct ethics hearing despite the fact that he is under investigation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"The purpose is to maintain the honor and dignity of the House of Representatives (DPR) as an institution that represents the people," PSHK researcher Miko Ginting said on Friday, Nov. 17.

In this context, Miko continued, MKD serves a function to maintain public trust toward DPR.

"Meanwhile, the ongoing legal processes against SN have to be kept transparent and accountable," he stated.

Almost a week after again named as a suspect on November 10, Setya Novanto dodged KPK summonses. When KPK attempted to take him into custody on Wednesday, the chairman of Golkar party’s whereabouts were unknown.

Until Thursday evening, Setya was reported to have an accident around Permata Hijau area, West Jakarta. At the moment, the DPR Speaker is receiving treatment at Cipto Mangun Kusumo General Hospital (RSCM) after being transferred from Medika Permata Hijau Hospital.

To anticipate any cases of disappearance, the KPK is constantly monitoring Setya Novanto at the hospital.
