Flash Floods Inundate Five Villages in Aceh

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five villages in Trumon Raya District, South Aceh Regency are inundated by flash floods on Saturday (11/11) resulting in blockage of transportation access to the areas.


Chief of Sejahtera hamlet of Cot Bayu Village T Sulaiman on Saturday (11/11) stated that 80 cm - 1.5 meter flash floods are caused by the overflow of Gelombang River due to the high intensity of rain in the past few days.


The five inundated villages are Titi Poben and Blok A Villages of East Trumon Timur district, Lhok Raya and Cot Bayu Villages of Central Trumon district, and Padang Harapan Village of Trumon district.


The flash floods surround the villages and cause the residents threatened of hunger. In addition, the floods also inundated hectares of palm and corn plantations.


South Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency officer Suhada explained that fast response team has been deployed to evacuate the trapped residents.


"We have deployed a team to the area with a rubber boat to evacuate the residents. Refugee center will in Trumon Brigade Mobile Military Unit in which refugee tents have been set up. In addition, we will also provide public kitchen," he said.
