Cemeteries Crowded with Visitors on Eid Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of people are seen in cemeteries soon after they finished the Eid al-Fitr prayers this morning, June 25.
At the Aria Putra Cemetery in Pamulang, South Tangerang, people are walking in groups to visit their families graves, creating traffic on nearby roads.

"This is a tradition. We come every year [on Eid Day] and before the Ramadan starts," said 20-year-old Reza.
This tradition brings fortune to flower shops, food peddlers, and unofficial parking men.

Indonesian Muslims have long had the tradition of visiting the graves of their loved ones before and during the Eid, as a form of showing respect to the people who have passed away. They usually scattered flower petals and pour flower-infused water on the graves, and say prayers for the dead.
