Indonesia Hopes Qatar Crisis would be Settled Peacefully: Kalla

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia hopes that the diplomatic crisis between Arab countries and Qatar could be settled peacefully, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Wednesday.


"We hope it could be settled peacefully," he stated.

Kalla noted that the Indonesian government was still studying the problem, including its impact for now or in the future.


In connection with the crisis that has divided the Arab coalition, the vice president remarked that Indonesia would take no side but would keep monitoring what is going on in the region.

He revealed that the citizens in Qatar remained safe. "We have communicated with our ambassador there. They remain calm," he asserted.


Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Yemen, Egypt, and Libya announced on Monday that they had cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of "supporting and funding terrorism" as well as meddling in their domestic affairs. Qatar has denied the accusation.
