TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entering the month of Ramadan 1438 Hijr, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi expressed his greeting for Ramadan to Indonesians by wishing them well with their month of fasting. In addition, he also delivered a number of messages to strengthen unity among Indonesians.
"I wish in this holy month we are able to increase our deeds, our sense of brotherhood and our unity as Indonesian," President Jokowi said on Friday, May 26.
This message is in line with his previous messages recently. He believes the people of Indonesia and a number of government institutions have wasted their energy on unnecessary things in the past few months eventually causing disintegration.
As an example in his speech on Central Government Financial report last Tuesday, Jokowi said that Indonesians and some government institutions spend more time on rallying, mocking, attacking and blaming each other which are counterproductive in nature.
What Indonesia really needs, President Jokowi said, is people and government in unity to face global challenges. "We are far left behind from our neighboring countries," he said.
