Electoral Results in 8 Regions Can Potentially Spark Disputes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is ready to face lawsuit disputes regarding the results of the 2017 simultaneous regional head elections. There are at least eight regions with potential disputes due to the close difference in the final results which are less than 2 percent based on KPU's real count up to February 20, 2017.
“We’re ready to face [potential] reports to the Constitutional Court,” said the Commissioner of KPU, Hadar Nafis Gumay, on Monday, February 20, 2017.
The eight regions are West Sulawesi and Banten Gubernatorial election, Yogyakarta and Salatiga Mayor elections, and the elections at Pidie, Gayo Lues, Takalar, and Bombana.
Based on Article 157 of Law No.10/2016 on Regional Leaders, dispute applications would have to be submitted to the Constitutional Court three days after KPU issues the electoral results, which will be held on 2-10 March.
“The final results to be used as the reference is the region’s KPU establishment, not the data that is available in KPU’s [website] since it will progressively change or it isn’t complete yet,” Hadar explained.
The following are the results of the elections in the regions that have less than 2 percent gap between candidates. The results were based on KPU’s real count up to February 20, 2017.
