Mother Claims Not Knowing of Son's Intention to Join Syrian War

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Parents of Jang Johana (25) never imagined their child would go to join the war in Syria. "He only said that he wanted to work in Malaysia," said Acih (45), Jang’s mother on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.
Jang who is a resident of Harjamandiri Village, West Bandung District, said to his mother that he would like to travel to Malaysia to work as a construction worker. "I even said to myself at the time, why go so far to work as a construction worker," Acih said.
Acih only knew about Jang's whereabouts when Jang was already on the news for being deported together with two other Indonesian citizens, Tomi and Irfan. The three of them earlier stated that they wanted to join the war in Syria.
Head of Public Information Division of the Indonesian National Police Gen. Rikwanto, said that the police are currently looking for the person who recruited and sent the three Indonesian citizens to Syria. "We're currently searching, we'll find out who the recruiter is," Rikwanto said on Monday, December 26, 2016.
