TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Governor Candidate for Jakarta, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, compared the alleged blasphemy case of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama with the money multiplication case of Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi.
“I sometimes laugh to myself. Yesterday there was a fuss about [someone] that could reduplicate money. Now we’ll make a connection, is this blasphemous?” Djarot asked the Head of Communication and Information of United Development Party, Ahmad Gozali Harahap, on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
Ahmad, who was beside Djarot, immediately agreed that the money multiplication scheme by exploiting people’s faith in religion can be considered as an act of blasphemy. Djarot couldn’t believe that not one member of the society was outraged. Especially since Taat Pribadi’s case involved a figure from the Indonesian Ulama Council, Marwah Daud.
Djarot thinks that society should let legal proceedings determine whether if Ahok had the motive to deliberately conduct blasphemy. Djarot also urged his supporters to be patient and continue to support Ahok through their prayers.
