TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - ASEAN Finance Ministers meet today in the ASEAN Finance Minister’s Investor Seminar (AFMIS). The meeting brings together the bloc’s Finance Ministers with regional and global investors in a bid to promote ASEAN as a promising investment destination.
ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Lim Hong Hin said that AFMIS is an important forum to promote ASEAN tourism. Amid global economic slowdown and uncertainty over recovery, according to Hin, ASEAN has been able to maintain strong economic fundamentals and stability.
Indonesian Finance Minister deputy Mardiasmo said that ASEAN has entered a new era with the commencement of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The AEC is aimed at establishing a single market and production base, strengthening competitiveness of the region, achieving equal economic distribution and integrating the bloc with the global economy.
The objectives are elaborated in the new ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025: Forging Ahead Together. “The blueprint is an elaboration of the platform to further improve and strengthen integration in ASEAN in the next ten years,” he said.
