TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) plays host to the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions Working Group on Environmental Auditing (INTOSAI WGEA) event held at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta on October 25 until October 27, 2016.

The meeting will highlight the BPK's active role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN back in September 2015. The INTOSAI WGEA aims to assist audit agencies to better understand environmental auditing, to facilitate exchange of information and shared experience of audit institutions and to publish guidelines as well as other information.

Serving as the WGEA Chair, BPK offers the concept of audit guidelines for SDG policies and implementation at the national, regional and global level. Aside from discussing environmental issues, participants will approve the implementation of the WGEA 2014-2016 Work Plan and endorse the Work Plan for the 2017-2019 period. In addition, the BPK will be inaugurated as the WGEA Chair for 2017-2019 period.

The INTOSAI WGEA brings together 115 representatives from 48 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI), the Australian National University, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

INTOSAI WGEA was officially opened earlier this morning by President Joko Widodo. Also present during the opening event were BPK chief Harry Azhar Azis and National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro.
