TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) gave a score of six for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration in eradicating corruption over the last two years.

ICW head of law and monitoring division Aradila Caesar said that the score was higher compared to last year. He said that two positive points leveraging the government’s performance score, namely the suspension of the passing of the draft revision to the Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the termination of criminalization efforts against KPK leaders.

“In the first year, the government seemed to be less assertive,” Aradila said at the ICW office in Jakarta on Thursday, October 20, 2016.

On the other hand, he added, ICW deplored the government’s plan to launch a law reform policy package. Aradila viewed that the law reform should have been realized hand in hand with the economic sector improvement.

Earlier, Cabinet secretary Pramono Anung said that the government had been focusing on the economic sector in the first two years of President Jokowi’s leadership, due to the global economic slowdown. He added that the government had prepared a law reform policy package in the third year of the administration.

ICW revealed that corruption eradication efforts initiated over the last year had targeted small corruption cases. Two highest law enforcement institutions, namely the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office, are seen unable to close corruption cases.

ICW recorded that only 151 cases out of 911 corruption cases investigated by the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office in the second semester of 2015 had been escalated to the indictment. The rest of the cases are still being processed or considered as dead ends.
