TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) noted that inter-bank fund transfer remains the most favourable payment option for e-commerce transactions in Indonesia.

Based on data collected from five major e-commerce websites by an Indonesian payment gateway company Veritrans, and online news website DailySocial, 57 percent of e-commerce consumers prefer bank transfer, 28 percent prefers cash on delivery (COD) payment, eight percent prefers other methods transaction, while the remaining seven percent prefers credit card. Unfortunately, bank transfer transaction provides no security assurance to users.

"Based on the Threat Exposure Rate [TER] of malware attack on personal computers, Indonesia is currently listed as the most malware-vulnerable country in the last three months 23.54 percent [TER]," said Ery Punta Hendraswara, Head of ASPI’s Infrastructure and Payment System Technology Commission on Friday, September 24, 2016.

In an effort to improve security, most e-commerce vendors and websites have manage to incorporate anti-malware programs in their payment system.

Ery also added that ASPI urged Bank Indonesia to pay attention to online transaction security, given the growing number of online transaction.

"[Malware attacks] must be prevented and needs to be controlled by the government and Bank Indonesia," Ery said.
