Govt Push for Implementation of e-Voting in 2019 Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Politics and General Governance, the Interior Ministry, Soedarmo said the government is pushing the implementation of electronic voting in 2019 general election.
“Implementation of e-voting was suggested by the public during a public review on election draft bill. The electronic voting for the general election will become an additional issue in the preparation of the election draft bill,” he said Monday , August 29, 2016.
According to him, the issue is still being discussed by the Interior Ministry and several parties in the meetings at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
Soedarmo also explained that the electronic voting system would reduce the possibility of electoral fraud.
“The process will be more efficient and effective, the results will be quicker and more accurate,” he added.
Earlier, the House of Representatives (DPR) has included the revision of election law packages, namely Law No 8/2012 on Legislative Election, Law No 42/2008 on Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Law No 15/2014 on the General Election, in the 2016 national legislation program (prolegnas).
