Ahok to Ban Political Campaigns Through Billboards

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) said that he will ban election campaigns by using billboards, including during the campaign period of the Jakarta Governor Election in 2017.
According to Basuki, putting billboards is equal to tarnishing the beauty of the city.
"We must not use billboards for campaign. It will also make our city dirty,” Basuki said in Jakarta on Saturday (27/8).
Basuki added that he has instructed Central Jakarta Mayor Manggara Pardede to dismantle all banners and billboards.
"Any billboard or banner must be dismantled because it makes the city look ugly," Basuki said, adding that Jakarta residents are well-educated voters so they will not be affected by campaigns using billboards.
Basuki added that the people can evaluate the performance and programs of the candidates of the election without having to sacrificing the beauty of the city.
