TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The executive director of Energy Watch Indonesia Ferdinand Hutahaen says that the new Energy and Mineral Resource Minister should understand the renewable energy sector. "Indonesia needs someone who understands renewable energy sector, not someone with offshore skill like Arcandra ," he said in a written statement on Friday, August 19, 2016.
Ferdinand said that President Joko Widodo's option on Arcandra was not the right move, amid his citizenship fiasco.
"We do not need an expert on oil because our oil reserve is draining and closing to an end," he said .
Ferdinand added, "we need someone who is clever and able to lead the Energy Ministry. He has to have a skill in lobbying and a good vision."
At the mean time, the position is held temporarily by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, notably Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs. Arcandra has been removed from his duty, following a dual-citizenship situation.
