TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned construction firm Wijaya Karya (Wika) corporate secretary Suradi said that his company would propose watershed constructions to dispose water from control boxes to river following a flood that occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 3 on Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Wijaya Karya is a lead consortium for the new terminal development at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Earlier on Sunday, August 14, 2016, a flood puddle occurred at the newly-opened terminal, caused by an overflowed control box and heavy rainfall.

“The box is located below the plaza,” Suradi said in a press release in Jakarta on August 15, 2016.

Suradi explained the watershed constructions were aimed at directing water to the closest river from each control box. He added that the constructions would start on Monday, August 15, 2016.

In addition, Suradi said that his company had planned to bypass waterways from the roof to directly dispose water to opened drainages.

“The additional watershed and waterway works are expected to complete within a week,” he said.

In addition to the flood, water gushed out at the passengers’ waiting lounge. State-owned airport operator Angasa Pura II (AP II) spokesperson Haerul Anwar said that the drainage system could not handle the excessive rainwater debit.

Suradi revealed that the consortium would form a team consisting of technical personnel who would stand by for 24 hours to anticipate issues that might occur in the new terminal.
