TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arrmanatha Nasir, Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the government will be taking execution threats directed to Indonesian hostages in the Philippines seriously.
"The point is, being held hostage is already a threat to their lives. So whatever [the armed group] said, we will take them seriously," Arrmanatha said on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
Arrmanatha said that the government will continue to take steps to free the hostages. Tata said that last Monday, the Foreign Ministry has summoned families of the hostages to inform them of any development of the hostages’ conditions.
"We want families to be patient. We said to the families that the hostages' safety is our primary concern," Arrmanatha added.
Arrmanatha stated that freeing the hostages is not an easy process. Therefore, the government must be cautious in making its move.
The government, according to Arrmanatha, continues to establish communication with the Filipino government and other parties in South Philippines. The government also continues to coordinate with the ship owner and the armed group.
