TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Teman Ahok is planning to apply for judicial review to the Counstitutional Court (MK) in relation to factual verification requirement stipulated in Law No. 1/2015 on Regional Election.
“We have been mulling whether to apply for judicial review to the MK. We will be taking a very close look,” the founder of Teman Ahok Singgih Widaystono told Tempo in Jakarta, Thursday, June 9, 2016.
The newly passed Regional Election Law by the House of Representatives stipulates factual verification through the method of sensus by the election committee (PPS) for individual candidates. The census method is conducted through direct meeting with independent candidate supporters. If the PPS personnel fail to meet the supporters, the candidate’s campaign team must bring the supporters to the PPS office in no later than three days.
Singgih considered the mechanism of vactual verification by sensus by the General Election Commission (KPU) as quite complicated. However he believed that Ahok’s supporters are ready and he will form a team to watch over the verification process.
Teman Ahok are Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama supporters that voluntarily support him to run as an independent in 2017 gubernatorial election. As of June 8, 2016, Teman Ahok have gathered around 950,000 ID cards as a requirement for Ahok to run as an independent.
