TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia continues to push the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to end Israel's occupation of Palestine. The demand was made by Dian Triansyah Djani, Permanent Representatives of Indonesia to the United Nations during an open debate at the United Nations Headquarter in New York on Monday, April 18, 2016. Indonesia asserted that it is imperative for Israel to end its occupation to allow the establishment of a free Palestine.

In the debate, Djani also announced the agreement made during the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation in Jakarta on March 6 and March 7, 2016, which underline the importance of a comprehensive and final solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.

"The violence that is occurring in Palestine has reached an alarming level," Djani said.

Djani added that Israel must also fulfill its international responsibility by protecting Palestinian rights and arbitrary killing. "The violence that continues to occur reflects the rivalry between the Palestinian and Israeli people, and will continue to obstruct the peace making process," Djani said.

Djani also raised concerns on the number UN resolution related to Palestine that has not been followed up. "The UN cannot just conduct meetings or consult [with the international community] while people are dying in Palestine. This is unacceptable," Djani said.
