Leonardo DiCaprio Travels to Aceh to Meet Orangutan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Leonardo DiCaprio visited Mount Leuser National Park in Aceh on Sunday, March 27, 2016. The Hollywood actor known for his role as Jack Dawson in Titanic has traveled to the conservation center with his fellow actors, Adrien Brody and Fisher Stevens, and some other crews.
Cited from Gunungleuser website, DiCaprio and his entourage witnessed the biodiversity of Aceh at Ketambe Research Station, Southeast Aceh and met with three Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) not far from the research station.
Based on the report on the site, DiCaprio was amazed by the beauty of Mount Leuser National Park. Besides listening to rangkong and other bird species tweets, DiCaprio has spent almost two hours just to watch the behaviour of Sumatran orangutan.
DiCaprio who previously visited East Aceh had no any intention to visit Southeast Aceh, yet he wished to visit the Sumatran orangutan research station and directly see the orangutan in its habitat which is located in the Mount Leuser National Park.
“The Mount Leuser National Park supports anyone who has a good intention to help the Leuser conservation. We also appreciate environmental activist that campaign for the preservation of the nature including Leonardo DiCaprio and his partners,” said the head of Mount Leuser National Park Main Station, Andi Basrul.
The visit of DiCaprio and his entourage has caught local people’s attention as their helicopter landed on a school yard in Katambe.
Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor as well as an environmental activist who actively campaign for the climate change issue. Through Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, the actor who just received his first Oscar for his role in The Revenant also active in supporting conservation activities in all around the world including Indonesia.
