TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama confirmed that the Jakarta Regional Government will demolish the Kalijodo red light district this year. "It could be done once the demolition warrant is issued," Ahok said at the City Hall on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Ahok said that in order to control Kalijodo, he has coordinated with the North Jakarta and West Jakarta Mayor as well as the Police and Armed Forces personnel. Ahok added that he had asked the Mayors to first issue a warning letter.
"Once the warrant is out, we will request assistance from the police and armed forced," said Ahok.
Despite having made coordination efforts, Ahok claimed to have no report from the Mayors regarding the warrant. "I don't know, just ask the mayor," Ahok said.
Previously, Ahok said that in the near future, he will demolish the Kalijodo red light district in Pejagalan, North Jakarta, and in its place, Ahok is planning to build a public park.
