TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Education and Cultural Minister Anies Baswedan opens the 3rd Indonesian Art Congress at Panghegar Hotel Bandung on Wednesday, Dec 2.

Anies invites artists to participate in sharing their experiences in art to the nearest schools.

Anies says art is equally important as science. In the future, many will require creative people. “Art needs to be practiced with greater portion,” said Anies.

Head of Indonesian Art Congress Committee Kacung Mardjan said the congress is initiated by 600 artists. “The government only facilitate it. We expect the congress can create a formula to the government,” he said.

The congress dubbed “Kesenian dan Negara dalam Arus Perubahan (Art and State in Current Changes)” with four sub-themes: political art in the state’s perspective; art, state and challenges in the global level; art education, media and creativity; and art in the vortex of complexity of the present.
