Thousands of People Supports Petition for National Fairy Tale Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Fairy Tale Forum launches an online petition urging the government to set November 28 as a National Fairy Tale Day. The petition that is submitted to Change.org is addressed to President Joko Widodo and the Education and Culture Minister, Anies Baswedan.
As many as 1,700 people have signed the petition since November 22 until Saturday morning, November 28. The forum, which consists of story-teller communities and educators, believes Indonesia has many folktale that convey valuable messages for children development.
The date is picked as the National Fairy Tale Day to honor the late renowned story-teller Drs Suyadi who was born on that date. The forum held a declaration on Saturday in a number of cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, Lampung, Bali and Bogor.
