Mount Merapi Forest Fire Spreading

TEMPO.CO , Boyolali -Forest fire continues to expand in Mount Merapi. Central Java. Head National Park of Mount Merapi, Suwignya, said that there are four hotspots monitored.
Until Monday afternoon, fire has been driven to the west side of the mount, away from local’s field. “We saw fire west of Apu River and north of Bubrah Market. Fire is still, away from hiking area,” said Suparno, a volunteer.
A joint team has attempted to put off fire in Mount Merapi, preventing it from spreading south. “It can burn forest, tobacco plantation, and other fields,” said Head of Emergency Department of tne Disaster Mitigation Agency of Boyolali, Kurniawan Fajar Prasetyo. "We find it difficult as we have to put off fire on steep cliffs.”
