Ahok: Pasar Rumput Development Will Benefit Local Sellers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama claimed that he has had enough with people rejecting relocation and saying that they did not receive any prior information. "I have had enough with the word," said Ahok in the City Hall on Friday, October 9.
Ahok said that the sellers of Pasar Rumput, a regional market in South Jakarta, refused to be relocated, arguing that they are protected by regulation. "[The document] says that they are allowed to settle for 20 years. However, it expired on May 27, 2012," he said.
"We plan to change Pasar Rumput for their sake as well," he insisted.
The government plans to build a 23-storey market place, in which sellers do not need to buy their unit. Rumput Market will be turned into a bunkhouse-market facility, in which sellers can also settle. Pasar Rumput construction is included in a series of Ciliwung River project.
