TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Bandung city administration planned to build a cable car prototype in cooperation with PT Aditya Dharmaputra Persada before building a 42-kilometer cable car network to ease traffic congestion.

"The socialization of the project will be conducted next week. We’re planning to break ground in December," Bandung Mayor Ridwan "Emil" Kamil said in Bandung on Friday, September 4, 2015.

Emil added that PT Aditya Dharmaputra Persada would not necessarily win the project tender, although the company has stated its commitment to build the prototype for free.

"PT Aditya will participate in the next tender to build the rest of the [cable car] network. The National Procurement Agency will issue a letter to allow direct appointment for the prototype," Emil explained.

Emil said that Asian Development Bank (ADB) vice President Bambang Susantono has pledged a low-interest loan for the project.

"They will finance the project with an interest rate of 1.5 percent. Private banks usually offer 5 percent. Interestingly, the ADB has built cooperation with State-Owned Ministers, so the interest rate offered is only 1.5 percent," Emil revealed.

Emil continued that the amount of investment for the cable car project was about Rp 5 trillion (US$357.1 million). With such a commitment from the ADB, Emil claimed that the cable car project would be a more feasible than the monorail project. Emil said that the cost to build the cable car network was far lower compared to monorail development.
