Indonesia, US Establish Energy Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said and US Ambassador for Indonesia Robert O. Blake have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation.
“The signing of this MoU is to achieve 35,000-megawatt electricity project,” said Sudirman on Wednesday.
The cooperation includes coal emission technology, use of renewable energy, sharing experiences about energy policy, minimizing use of solar fuel, efficient development of network in remote areas and use of renewable energy in electricity.
“We want to provide bigger portion to development of new and renewable energy, including cooperation for development from renewable energy,” said Sudirman.
Sudirman continued that Indonesia’s electrification ration reaches 86.39 percent and is targeted to reach 97.4 percent in 2019.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Robert Blake is committed to support the development of electricity sector and enhancement of electrification ratio in Indonesia.
“Through this MoU, the US is fully supportive of Indonesia to build 35,000 megawatt by forming a power working group,” he said.
