Haze Covers Pekanbaru, Airport Still Normal

TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Haze from forest fires is still covering Riau. Visibility in Pekanbaru has decreased by 1,000 meters, but flights in Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport remain normal.
“Flights are still smooth and normal,” said Sultan Syarif Kasim II’s duty manager Hasnan on Tuesday.
According to Hasnan, even though the visibility in the runway is at the limit of 1,000 meters, five airplanes in the morning could land safely.
Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said Tera and Aqua satellites monitored 198 hotspots in Sumatera.
According to Sugarin, Riau is the largest contributor of hotspots with 82, followed by South Sumatera with 46 spots, Jambi 59 spots, West Sumatera seven spots, Lampung three spots and North Sumatera one spot.
For Riau region, the hotspots are spread in all regencies with Pelalawan 33 spots, Kampar 12 spots, Indragiri Hulu 17 spots, Indragiri Hilir six spots, Rokan Hulu five spots, Dumai two spots, Kuantan Singingi two spots, Siak two spots, Pekanbaru two spots and Bengkalis one spot. “Confidence level is above 70 percent or 54 spots,” he said.
Haze in Riau also reduces visibility in several regions, such as Pekanbaru ine kilometer, Rengat one kilometer, Pelalawan one kilometer and Dumar four kilometers.
