TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The House of Representatives refused to be blamed for not being productive in passing laws due to its poor performance. By August 13, 2015, or ten months after inauguration, the House had only passed three laws.

House of Representatives speaker Setya Novanto said that the President should be blamed for the poor legislation productivity due to his extensive role.

“As a reminder, bill draft discussion does not only involve the House of Representatives and the government, but also a commitment between the two institutions,” Novanto said in his speech during the commemoration of the House 70th anniversary on Friday, August 28.

Setya added that the House would be able to accelerate the national legislation program upon government’s solid coordination.

The three laws passed by the House were amendments of laws from the previous period, namely the Law on the Legislative Institution, the Law on regional heads elections and the Law on regional administrations.

Meanwhile, none of the 39 priority laws set in the 2015 national legislation program have been passed yet.
