TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Abraham Samad, non-active Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief hoped that the next KPK chief would be courageous and resilient.

"At least like the third [leader]," Samad said at the National Police headquarter after being questioned for the third time on Thursday, July 2, 2015, in reference the 2011-2015 period.

According to Samad, a KPK chief must be progressive and ready to become a target of being toppled.

"A progressive individual is [a good leader]. But many people would try to topple him/her," Samad added.

Bambang Widjojanto, another KPK leader, was also named as a suspect by the National Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim) for allegedly instructing witnesses to commit perjury during a trial at the Constitutional Court in 2010. Meanwhile, Samad was named as a suspect in an alleged document forgery case in Makassar.

Currently, the KPK Leader Selection Team is screening names to be appointed as the new KPK leaders. The team has opened registration to pool candidates until July 3, 2015. By July 1, 2015, a total of 523 people have applied for the position.
