TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the World Bank, Indonesia sits on number 114 out of 189 countries in term of ease of doing business, the rank is three spots higher compared to last year. Although improving, Indonesia remains below its neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and the Philippines.
"I hope that the government would focus on improving the ease of doing business," Farah Ratnadewi Indriani, deputy of investment climate development at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), said at her office on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
Farah expected that cooperation between government institutions could be focused on improving ten ease of doing business (EODB) indicators. According to Farah, Malaysia has employed a special staff who focused on the development of ten EODB indicators that would help the Malaysian Prime Minister to grant business license. Farah hoped that Indonesia would learn from Malaysia in improving its investment climate.
Farah admitted that efforts to improve investment climate in Indonesia would not be easy becuase the country has a much different geographical condition compared to Malaysia.
The BKPM has initiated improvements in several indicators, such as simplifying the procedures by establishing the one-stop integrated service (PTSP) system in January.
