TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said that Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama needs to learn from the prostitution area Dolly’s shut down in Surabaya. Mayor Risma was referring to her success as she managed to shut down the Dolly red light district, which had been operational since 1968, last year.

"Red light district can cause systemic damage, especially among teenagers," said Risma.

Risma’s statement came in light of Ahok’s notion in creating red light district out of a localized apartment or Seribu Islands. Risma claimed that red light district is like a spreading virus, culminating in liquors, drugs, and indecent behavior.

Moreover, she highlighted cases when some prostitutes bring their friends, notably fellow students, to the business. Risma said that such cycle is a massive problem for the younger generation. "It’s like an endless cycle. Therefore, I decided to take Dolly down," she said.
